The Power of Saying No: How to Grow Your Business Without Compromising Time With Family and Friends

Jairek Robbins

Today, we are talking about the art of saying “no” and how it relates to your business. There’s a few rules to this art.

1. Don’t lie

I’ve watched a lot of people who are struggling to say the word “no” but instead of saying it, they literally lie to the other person. In other words, they step back for a moment and make something up. Don’t do that!

2. Don’t make excuses

Many people also come up with an excuse instead of straight up saying “no.” Now this is another version of lying, and it entails coming up with a made up version of why you are unable to accept a request being made. Don’t make excuses if you want to say no!

3. Don’t over-explain yourself

Have you ever found yourself having to explain yourself and you end up giving that person a really long explanation that you don’t have to tell them?

Don’t do those three things- simply decline and just say no.

The reason why I bring up those three rules above is that at the moment, if we are in the Q2 of 2021 and you have 90 days or three months and in those three months you have to decide what you are going to say yes to- meaning you have to decide what you are allocating your time, your thoughts, your resources, your team (for business owners out there); you’ve got to decide how your resources are going to be deployed, and what you are going to say yes to.

4. Pick your majors and minors

I would recommend that you say yes to 2 majors and 2-3 minors. Majors are giant projects that you are working on. Minors are little things that support those giant projects. So, if you have two majors and three minors, you’ve got a total of five spaces within which to put your time, resources and team into for 90 days.

You’ve got to get unbelievably clear on what your yes is for the next 90 days. Once you know what that is, every single thing else that pops up has to be a firm NO! You need to be clear on what you are going to say yes to and what you are going to say no to in the next 90 days.

Dangers of saying yes to everything

If you were to fall into the trap of saying yes to everything without ever saying no, several things will happen;

So if you are suffering bad relationships, anxiety, stress, depression, lack of personal identity and burnout in your business, it is probably because you have not trained yourself to know when to say no.

Benefits of saying yes to what matters most

When you master saying yes very clearly to the things that are important to you, and you get clear about saying no to everything else, you will feel more;

Just comparing the effects of saying yes to everything vs. learning what to say no to shows you that one brings good things while the other causes misery all round.

When you master the process of picking just 2-5 things that you will say yes to over the next 90 days and then say no to everything else, you will begin to see powerful positive results.

Case study of saying yes to what matters

As an example, one of our clients who used this process registered a 50% overall increase in their revenue last year, 171% increase in profitability and 195% increase in their net profit year-to-date. They mastered saying yes to the most important parts of their business and they mastered saying no to everything else. They are confident in their business, they are powerful, they have a clear understanding of their identity of who they are and who their team is, they are proud of what they have accomplished, they are absolutely aligned and they are a force to reckon with.

In our own personal business, we have mastered this and have been mastering it over the past 3 years. Our business has grown 134% over the past 3 years. We make more profit in a month than we used to make in an entire year 4-6 years ago. It’s absolutely amazing when you master this process. It is game-changing!

So my message to you is, can you get really clear on what your “yes” is for the next 90 days. Can you then practice the art of saying “no.” Do not lie. Do not make excuses. Don’t over-explain yourself. Just simply decline and say “no.” It is one of the most powerful things you will ever do for your life, and it is one of the most powerful things you will do for the business in the next 90 days.

Have fun with this, and kick some butt. If you need some help getting clear on what your “yes” is for the next 90 days, please fill out the form at the link businessprofitaccelerator.com. Our team will reach out and help you to get absolutely clear on what your “yes” is for the next 90 days so that you can practice the art of saying “no” to everything else and you can drive your business forward.

Bonus tip

One more thing, I didn’t teach this on the live version because I wanted to mention this on the recorded version as this is bonus content for those who receive our newsletter. Here is an important thing to think about; every time you say yes to something (text messages, random people wanting to pick your brain, funny YouTube videos, Facebook, Instagram, for example), you are actually saying no to family time, your health, reading that extra book you’ve always wanted to read, sleep or proper recovery.

Every time you say “yes” to a distraction, ask yourself what you are saying “no” to yet it is actually very important to you. If you practice this, you will realize that most of these distractions are not worth it. Say no to all those distractions like Facebook, Instagram or people trying to pick your brain and instead say yes to great sleep, reading a book, your health and to your family.

Practice saying no to all the distractions so you can say yes to the things that are absolutely most important to you in life. Now, go practice saying no and kick some butt!

To Your Success,
