Today we’re talking about how to REALLY prepare for tough times.
Here’s what’s interesting: we get all kinds of news flashes for hurricanes, tropical storms, upgrading, downgrading, dissipating – we don’t know what’s going to happen exactly! Everyday the prediction changes and it gets even more crazy.
During the recording of today’s JRCtv there was a hurricane headed our way. As they start to upgrade from tropical storm to possible hurricane, I started watching how my neighbors were preparing for it… or not preparing.
Here’s what I noticed: many, many, many people just ignore it. They say, “Oh it happens all the time. It happens so often, we just have a party. We hang out, kick back, and relax”.

As I look at this group, I see them as the people who just ignore what’s going on around them. When they look at something in their life that’s not going the way they want it to; instead of dealing with it, instead of preparing for it, instead of really, truly strengthening the mental, emotional, physical muscle to be ready for it – they just go, “Oh who cares?” The result: they end up into a lot of trouble, especially if the predictions are right.
If there is a huge hurricane, that group of people ends up in a lot of trouble because they did not prepare properly. They don’t have the necessary tactics or tools needed to really get through it. They end up in a really bad position – go into shelters, out of their homes, etc.
The second group however, come prepared. They go out and get a couple jugs of water, little bit extra food, throw them in the fridge – but they don’t really prepare. This group make themselves feel like they’re ready but they only have enough to get a little bit of time. They slightly prepare, they go through the motions, but they don’t really put in the effort.
The final group of people overly prepare. They take time to make a list of everything they’re going to need. By first going to buy supplies and food, putting them in the right place, label everything, gather the whole family together, and have a meeting of how it works. They are fully stocked and prepared. Now what happens when the major storm does come? They breeze through it like it’s no big deal, because they were overly prepared for the challenging times.
How does this relate to you?
If you think into your future, whether you like it or not, life is going to throw you some curve balls. Whether it’s a physical ailment, a financial challenge; or a mental, emotional, or spiritual challenge, here’s my question to you: what do you do every single day to prepare yourself for challenging times that are going to show up at some point in your life?
Some people just ignore it, pretend like it’s not coming – “Fine, who cares? Live life to the fullest! Screw it”. They just go for it, forget it, act like it’s never going to be there. When they get hit, they get hit hard because they have zero preparation.
The next group of people, they kind of go through the motions. They do the minimum amount of preparedness possible. They might work out a couple times a week, maybe work up a small sweat. They might read a book every now and then. They don’t spend time praying until it’s too late and they’re saying, “Please save me, I didn’t prepare”. They don’t spend time working out on their health until the doctor has to say “You’re going to have a heart attack”. You see where I’m going with this?
